Summary

Infertile women with abnormal fallopian tubes show higher IgG and IgM antibodies to Chlamydia trachomatis. This suggests a link between tubal infertility and immune response to Chlamydia trachomatis infection.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence of humoral IgG and IgM antibodies to Chlamydia trachomatis in infertile women.
  • To compare antibody levels between infertile women with and without tubal abnormalities.
  • To assess the association between C. trachomatis infection and tubal infertility.

Main Methods:

  • Serological testing for IgG and IgM antibodies to C. trachomatis in 105 infertile women and 90 controls.
  • Chlamydial cultures from cervical, urethral, and fallopian tube specimens.
  • Statistical analysis to compare antibody prevalence and geometric mean titers (GMT).

Main Results:

  • Significantly higher prevalence of IgG and IgM antibodies to C. trachomatis in infertile women with abnormal fallopian tubes compared to controls (P ≤ 0.001).
