ABCB1 Gene Variants and Antidepressant Treatment Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Including Results

This study found limited evidence linking ABCB1 gene variations to antidepressant treatment outcomes in major depressive disorder (MDD). While one SNP (rs1128503) showed a weak association with treatment response, overall results do not support routine ABCB1 genotyping for guiding MDD therapy.

- New data from the Canadian Biomarker and Integration Network for Depression (CAN-BIND-1) cohort were analyzed using regression models.
- 39 studies were included in the meta-analysis, examining ABCB1 SNPs in MDD patients treated with antidepressants.

- No significant association was found between the studied ABCB1 SNPs and antidepressant treatment outcomes in the CAN-BIND-1 cohort.
