Background:

Sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis (SEP) is a rare chronic inflammatory condition.
Often, the origins of SEP are unknown, presenting diagnostic challenges.

Observation:

This report details a case of abdominal cocoon (sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis).
The condition was initially suspected to be caused by bowel obstruction, with tuberculosis peritonitis also considered.
A definitive diagnosis remained unclear, leading to the classification as an idiopathic abdominal cocoon.

Findings:

The patient's medical history was crucial in reaching the diagnosis.
Idiopathic abdominal cocoon represents a diagnostic challenge, particularly when presenting with symptoms of bowel obstruction.

Implications:

This case report is valuable for clinicians managing patients with bowel obstruction.
Understanding idiopathic abdominal cocoon is important for accurate diagnosis and patient care.
