Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the completeness of pathology reports for T1 colorectal cancers from various healthcare centers.
  • To assess the impact of report reevaluation on treatment decisions.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective cohort study involving reassessment of pathology reports for endoscopically excised malignant colorectal polyps.
  • Focus on key prognostic factors: tumor size, histologic type/grade, tumor extension, surgical margins, and lymphovascular invasion.

Main Results:

  • Only 1.5% of reports included all 5 prognostic factors.
  • Pathology reports for 88% of patients were inadequate for accurate treatment decisions due to missing data.
  • Tumor size and surgical margins were particularly underreported (11% and 9% respectively).

Conclusions:
