Reliability and Validity01:29

Reliability and Validity

12.8K
Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways.

Documentation in Long-Term and Home Healthcare Setting

953
Documentation in long-term care facilities and home healthcare settings is crucial for ensuring continuous, coordinated, and comprehensive care for patients. Each setting has its specific documentation processes and tools:

Surveys02:16

Surveys

14.9K
Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Generally, the survey itself can be completed in a short time, and the ease of administering a survey makes it easy to collect data from a large number of people.

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

3.4K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.

Observational Studies01:11

Observational Studies

8.8K
Observational studies are a type of analytical study where researchers observe events without any interventions. In other words, the researcher does not influence the response variable or the experiment's outcome.
There are three types of observational studies – Prospective, retrospective, and cross-sectional.
Prospective Study
Prospective studies, also known as longitudinal or cohort studies, are carried out by collecting future data from groups sharing similar characteristics. One...

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Psychometrics
  • Health Services Research

Background:

  • The Supportive Care Needs Survey (SCNS) is crucial for evaluating unmet needs in cancer patients.
  • Assessing the reliability generalization of the SCNS is essential for its accurate application.
  • This study addresses the need for robust psychometric validation of cancer patient assessment tools.

Approach:

  • A systematic meta-analysis was conducted on 26 quantitative studies.
  • Reliability coefficients (alpha) were extracted and analyzed using a random effects model.
  • Publication bias was assessed using Egger's test and funnel plots.

Key Points:

  • The SCNS long-form (LF) demonstrated an overall reliability of 0.90, with subdomains ranging from 0.90 to 0.97.
  • The SCNS short-form (SF) showed an overall reliability of 0.92, with subdomain reliabilities between 0.81 and 0.92.
  • Reliability was highest for psychological and health information needs and lowest for sexuality needs across both forms.

Conclusions:

  • The SCNS demonstrates strong overall reliability for measuring unmet needs in cancer patients.
  • Findings provide evidence for clinicians and researchers to confidently select the SCNS for patient assessments.
  • Understanding domain-specific reliability aids in nuanced interpretation of patient needs.
