    In recent months campaigners in the USA have expressed outrage at heatstroke-based methods being used to depopulate some American poultry and pig farms. Might this outcry lead to more welfare-friendly depopulation methods being developed? How does depopulation take place in the UK, and is there scope for welfare improvements? Josh Loeb investigates.
