Background:

Frailty is prevalent in hospital inpatients, increasing adverse event risk.
Variable staff understanding of frailty necessitates effective multidisciplinary training.
In situ simulation offers accessible, team-based learning but its impact on frailty care is unstudied.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the effectiveness of an inter-professional in situ frailty simulation program.
To assess improvements in human factor and frailty-specific skills among hospital staff.

Main Methods:

A single-centre, multi-fidelity, inter-professional in situ frailty simulation program was implemented.
Weekly one-hour sessions utilized frailty-based clinical scenarios.
Mixed-method evaluation with pre- and post-session data collection was employed.

Main Results:

86 multidisciplinary participants attended 19 simulation sessions.
Significant improvements were observed in self-efficacy across human factor (10/12 domains) and all frailty domains (p < 0.05).
Key learning themes included situational awareness, communication, and teamwork.

Conclusions:

In situ simulation effectively enhances self-efficacy in clinical and human factor skills related to frailty care.
Participants valued in-situ learning within their ward teams and debriefing opportunities.
Further research is needed to assess behavioral changes and clinical outcomes due to self-reporting limitations.
