This study introduces a Model-Driven Development approach to translate clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) into computer-interpretable guidelines (CIGs). This method aims to improve CPG accessibility for better patient care.
Area of Science:
- Medical Informatics
- Software Engineering
- Clinical Decision Support
Background:
- Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) offer evidence-based recommendations to optimize patient care.
- Effective CPG implementation requires accessibility at the point of care.
- Translating CPGs into Computer-Interpretable Guidelines (CIGs) is challenging due to CIG language complexity.
Conclusions:
- The proposed MDD approach simplifies the authoring of Computer-Interpretable Guidelines (CIGs).
- Transforming from accessible languages like BPMN to CIG languages like PROforma is achievable.
- Further research is warranted to validate the benefits of BPMN in collaborative CPG process modeling.
