Concomitant mechanisms of red-cell sedimentation are discussed: 1. physical 2. biological (the effects of plasma proteins, viscosity, and the number and size of erythrocytes on the rate of sedimentation). 3. an up-to-date review of the principal methods and systems used to measure the sedimentation rate--Automation of the Westergren initial methodology.
