Background:

  • Virtual reality (VR) and virtual environments (VEs) are increasingly used across industries.
  • The rise of the Metaverse necessitates understanding social and interactive dimensions of VR user experience (UX).
  • Limited research exists on how social presence and interactivity affect VR immersion and affect.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of social and interactive dimensions on VR user experience.
  • To compare individual vs. dyadic VR experiences with varying interactivity levels (passive vs. active).
  • To assess perceived and lived user experiences using mixed methods, including psychophysiological measures.

Main Methods:

  • Exploratory field study with 28 participants.
  • Mixed methods approach: psychometric surveys, user interviews, wearable bio- and motion sensors.
  • Between-subject design comparing individual and dyadic VR engagement with passive/active interactivity.
