Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review and summarize existing racial and ethnic disparities in osteoporosis screening via DXA.
  • To identify the extent of underrepresentation of minority groups in DXA screening protocols.

Main Methods:

  • Conducted an electronic literature search across SCOPUS, CINAHL, and PubMed using keywords related to osteoporosis, racial/ethnic minorities, and DXA.
  • Applied predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria for article selection, followed by quality appraisal and data extraction.
  • Aggregated data from 16 high-quality studies for comprehensive analysis.

Main Results:

  • A total of 16 studies were included after reviewing 412 articles.
  • 14 of the 16 studies revealed significant disparities, indicating minority groups were less likely to be referred for DXA screening.
