This study introduces a new home automation framework using serverless computing and MQTT for smart object management. A smart kitchen fan extractor demonstrated acceptable performance with narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) communication.
Area of Science:
- Computer Science
- Electrical Engineering
- Internet of Things
Background:
- The proliferation of smart devices necessitates efficient management solutions.
- Serverless computing and MQTT offer opportunities for scalable smart home systems.
- Current systems often lack intuitive control and easy replicability.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose a novel framework for home automation applications.
- To facilitate the control and monitoring of smart objects in a smart home.
- To enhance user interaction through a vocal command interface.
Main Methods:
- Development of a framework utilizing MQTT and cloud-based serverless functions.
- Integration of a vocal command interface for intuitive user control.
- Prototyping and testing of a smart kitchen fan extractor equipped with a narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) module.
Main Results:
- The proposed framework successfully managed and controlled the smart kitchen fan extractor.
- Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) demonstrated acceptable latency for MQTT message transmission.
- Minimal packet loss was observed during NB-IoT communication, indicating viability.
Conclusions:
- The proposed framework provides a viable solution for smart home automation.
- Serverless computing and MQTT are effective for managing smart objects.
- NB-IoT is suitable for smart home applications requiring reliable, low-latency communication.
