    Summary

    Thyroid nodules in patients without endocrine disease were studied. Most nodules had less epithelium and more colloid, suggesting they were not autonomously secreting.

    Background:

    • Thyroid nodules are common, and their functional status is crucial for diagnosis.
    • Understanding the histometric differences between thyroid nodules and surrounding tissue is key to assessing their behavior.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To perform histometric measurements on thyroid nodules and internodular thyroid tissue.
    • To assess the functional status and growth control of thyroid nodules in non-endocrine disease patients.

    • Histometric measurements of individual nodules and internodular thyroid tissue from 15 patients.
    • Analysis of colloid:epithelium ratio and acinar morphology.
