This study found elevated gliosis, an inflammatory brain change, in individuals experiencing persistent depressive and cognitive symptoms after COVID-19. This neuroinflammation, particularly in the ventral striatum and dorsal putamen, may explain lingering symptoms like fatigue and anhedonia.
