Summary

A new coding system for the Self-Understanding of Interpersonal Patterns Scales-Interview (SUIP-I) was developed to measure insight in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This system shows excellent reliability and validity for assessing patient insight.

Purpose of the Study:

  • Developed a Likert scale-based coding system for the SUIP-I, assessing six levels of insight.

  • Assessed 55 patients undergoing psychodynamic psychotherapy for depression using the SUIP-I at baseline.

Conclusions:

  • The developed SUIP-I coding system exhibits good initial reliability and validity for measuring insight in psychodynamic psychotherapy.
  • Further research is recommended to fully establish the psychometric properties of the SUIP-I coding system.
