Summary

Microvascular changes in diabetic macular edema (DME) detected by widefield swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (WF SS-OCTA) are more strongly linked to reduced contrast sensitivity (CS) than visual acuity (VA). This highlights CS as a sensitive indicator of vascular damage in DME.
