This study developed a validated 44-item survey to understand how organizations implement deprescribing guidelines. Findings will help improve the dissemination and adoption of evidence-based deprescribing strategies.
Area of Science:
- Implementation Science
- Health Services Research
- Evidence-Based Practice
Background:
- Organizational policies significantly influence the adoption of clinical guidelines.
- Limited understanding exists regarding strategies for disseminating and implementing evidence-based deprescribing guidelines and their effects.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop an internationally applicable online survey to assess organizational strategies for deprescribing guideline dissemination and implementation.
- To validate the content of the survey using a panel of experts.
Main Methods:
- An online survey was designed based on the RE-AIM (reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance) framework.
- Survey items underwent two rounds of content validation by a panel of clinicians, researchers, and implementation experts.
Main Results:
- A 52-item survey was refined to a 44-item instrument after content validation.
- The expert panel confirmed the relevance of adoption, implementation, and effectiveness components, while suggesting revisions for reach and maintenance sections.
Conclusions:
- A content-validated 44-item survey is now available to investigate deprescribing guideline dissemination and implementation.
- Future widespread distribution of this survey can identify effective strategies and guide future implementation planning.
