    Background:

    • Nasal stuffiness during pregnancy, often termed pregnancy rhinitis, is widely recognized.
    • Estrogen's role in nasal mucosal edema via cholinergic action is established.
    • Other potential contributors to nasal congestion in pregnancy include allergies, infections, stress, and rebound rhinitis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate whether rhinitis solely attributable to pregnancy exists as a primary pathologic entity.
    • To explore the prevalence and potential causes of nasal congestion in pregnant women.

    Main Methods:

    • A survey was conducted on 66 pregnant women near term.
    • An additional 16 pregnant women diagnosed with "rhinitis of pregnancy" were included.
    • Data collection focused on identifying the primary causes of nasal congestion.

    Main Results:

    • Findings suggest that rhinitis solely caused by pregnancy may not be a primary condition.
    • The study indicates that other factors commonly coexist with or cause nasal congestion during pregnancy.
