This study shows that adding Superlymph suppositories to standard antibiotic treatment significantly reduces chronic cystitis (urinary tract infection) relapses. The 20-day course of 10 IU Superlymph was most effective in preventing recurrence.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Infectious Diseases
- Pharmacology
Background:
- Chronic cystitis is a prevalent form of urinary tract infections (UTIs).
- Current international guidelines inadequately address the management of chronic cystitis.
- There is a need for effective therapeutic strategies for chronic cystitis.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the long-term efficacy of Superlymph rectal suppositories in combination with standard antibiotic therapy for chronic cystitis.
- To compare different dosages and durations of Superlymph treatment for chronic cystitis management.
Main Methods:
- A prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled study involving 91 patients with chronic cystitis.
- Three groups were established: standard antibiotic therapy alone (Group 1), standard therapy plus 25 IU Superlymph for 10 days (Group 2), and standard therapy plus 10 IU Superlymph for 20 days (Group 3).
- Standard therapy included fosfomycin trometamol and furazidin. Patients were followed up for 6 months post-treatment.
Main Results:
- After 6 months, 70.4% of patients in the 10 IU Superlymph group (Group 3) remained relapse-free, compared to 44.4% in the 25 IU group (Group 2) and 39.3% in the standard therapy group (Group 1).
- The relapse-free period was significantly longer in the Superlymph groups, averaging 123.5 days in Group 3.
- The differences in recurrence rates between the groups were statistically significant (p<0.001).
Conclusions:
- Combined etiologic and pathogenetic therapy, particularly with 10 IU Superlymph for 20 days, significantly reduces chronic cystitis recurrences and extends the relapse-free period.
- Superlymph rectal suppositories represent a promising adjunctive treatment for chronic cystitis.
- Long-term symptom absence was achieved in 70.4% of patients receiving the optimal Superlymph regimen.
