Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation II: ACLS Airway Management

20
Airway management is a key skill in emergency and critical care settings, as maintaining a clear airway is essential for adequate oxygenation and ventilation.Head Tilt-Chin Lift TechniqueThe head tilt-chin lift maneuver is an essential technique primarily used in patients without suspected cervical spine injuries. To perform this maneuver, one hand is placed on the patient’s forehead, and gentle pressure is applied backward to tilt the head. The fingertips of the other hand are positioned...

Suctioning the Oropharyngeal Airway01:25

Suctioning the Oropharyngeal Airway

257
In preparing for oropharyngeal airway suctioning, a nurse must gather all necessary equipment, including a suction unit with tubing, a prepackaged suction kit, sterile gloves, water or saline for irrigation, a water-soluble lubricant, and additional personal protective equipment (such as a gown, mask, and goggles) to control infections.
After assembling the equipment, the nurse should practice hand hygiene and don appropriate PPE according to infection control guidelines to avoid the...

Cystic Fibrosis: Management

194
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive disorder that predominantly affects individuals of Northern European descent, occurring at a rate of 1 in 3500. It is caused by a genetic mutation in a gene on chromosome 7, most commonly the ΔF508 mutation, that codes for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein. This results in thicker mucus secretions and obstruction pathologies in multiple organs, including the lungs and sinuses.
Sinus disease and chronic...

Area of Science:

  • Occupational health
  • Medical education
  • Ergonomics

Background:

  • Musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries are a significant occupational hazard for healthcare providers.
  • Lack of ergonomic awareness and training during early medical education contributes to these injuries.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To integrate an ergonomics session into the Comprehensive Cleft Care Workshop (CCCW) curriculum.
  • To enhance healthcare providers' awareness and daily integration of ergonomic principles.
  • To reduce the incidence of MSK injuries among healthcare professionals.

Main Methods:

  • Introduction of a dedicated ergonomics session within the CCCW.
  • Educational content focused on ergonomic principles and their practical application.
  • Curriculum modification to include ergonomics as a core component.

Main Results:

  • Increased awareness of ergonomic principles among workshop participants.
  • Improved understanding of how to integrate ergonomics into daily clinical routines.
  • Foundation laid for potential reduction in MSK injury rates.

Conclusions:

  • Integrating ergonomics education into medical training workshops is feasible and necessary.
  • Enhanced ergonomic awareness can empower healthcare providers to mitigate MSK injury risks.
  • The CCCW's initiative serves as a model for proactive injury prevention in healthcare education.
