Ischemic Stroke ll: Pathophysiology

An ischemic stroke occurs when a cerebral blood vessel becomes obstructed, most often by a thrombus or embolus, interrupting the delivery of oxygen and glucose to brain tissue. Because neurons rely on continuous aerobic metabolism, energy failure begins within minutes of reduced perfusion. Summary

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients exhibit altered platelet granule morphology. Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM) revealed changes reversed by antiplatelet drugs, with 2MeSAMP showing greater efficacy than Aspirin in vitro.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess platelet morphology, ultrastructure, and function in AIS patients using Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM).
  • To investigate the effects of antiplatelet agents on platelet granule changes in AIS.
  • To compare the in vitro efficacy of 2MeSAMP and Aspirin in AIS platelet models.
