Retro-miRs: novel and functional miRNAs originating from mRNA retrotransposition

New primate-specific microRNAs (miRNAs) called retro-miRs originate from retrocopied messenger RNAs. These retro-miRs are expressed, conserved, target important genes, and are implicated in cancer development.
