Lexical Processing Strongly Affects Reading Times But Not Skipping During Natural Reading

Word skipping during reading is mainly driven by simple oculomotor factors like word length and fixation position, not linguistic prediction or parafoveal preview. Reading times, however, are significantly influenced by both prediction and preview.
