Abstract:
Generally, when the proportion of the population aged ≥65 years exceeds 21% of the total population, it is referred to as a "super-aging society." In 2022, Japan surpassed this ratio, reaching 29%, presenting a significant challenge in sustaining the generous government support being provided. Maintaining connections with the community as individuals age, amid changes in their lives, bodies, and social relationships, is also considered crucial for the physical and mental well-being. Virtual reality may emerge as a potentially valuable tool aiding the promotion of health and social engagement of older people.
