Purpose of the Study:

- Randomized controlled trial with 51 patients allocated to microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), 5 g/day acacia, or 10 g/day acacia.
- Outcomes measured at baseline, 6, and 12 weeks included NT-proBNP, ST2, NYHA class, quality of life scores, and 6-minute walk test.
- Safety, tolerability, and adherence were monitored throughout the study.
Main Results:
- No significant differences in NT-proBNP, ST2, NYHA class, or quality of life scores were observed between acacia and MCC groups over 12 weeks.
- Dietary supplementation with acacia gum showed a negligible impact on gut microbial communities.
- No safety, tolerability, or adherence issues were reported for either acacia dose.
Conclusions:
- Dietary supplementation with acacia gum is safe and well-tolerated in ambulatory HF patients.
- Acacia gum supplementation did not significantly alter NT-proBNP levels, ST2, or gut microbiome composition.
- The FEAST-HF trial did not demonstrate a clinical benefit of acacia gum in this HF population.
