Summary

This study compared two progressive addition lenses, AO Ultravue 28 and Essilor Varilux 2. Results revealed distinct optical characteristics and allowed for calculating peripheral astigmatism ratios relative to lens addition.

Background:

Progressive addition lenses (PALs) are crucial for presbyopia correction.
Understanding peripheral optical performance is key to lens design and patient satisfaction.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze and compare the peripheral power characteristics of two specific PALs: AO Ultravue 28 and Essilor Varilux 2.
To establish relationships between peripheral astigmatism and lens addition in these PALs.

Main Methods:

Peripheral dioptric power was measured relative to the vertex sphere using a Nikon projection vertexometer.
Graphical representations were employed for rapid evaluation of power variations.
Ratios of peripheral astigmatism to addition were calculated.
