Background:

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the spine, often leading to severe postural deformities and significant mobility impairment.
Postural deformities in AS can exacerbate visual challenges, impacting a patient's ability to navigate their environment and perform daily activities.

Observation:

A patient diagnosed with severe ankylosing spondylitis presented with marked postural deformity and profound mobility difficulties.
The patient experienced challenges with spatial orientation and safe ambulation due to their physical limitations.

Findings:

The implementation of custom-designed, rim-less spectacles was observed to be beneficial.
These spectacles incorporated yoked Fresnel base-down prisms, which effectively compensated for the patient's visual field deficits and postural changes.
