Background:

  • Gingival displacement is crucial for accurate dental impressions in prosthodontics.
  • A lack of randomized clinical trials exists for evaluating gingival displacement products.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To prospectively evaluate the clinical effectiveness of three gingival displacement techniques.
  • Compare Racegel cordless, Racegel with a cord, and Racestyptine with a cord.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective, multicenter, randomized clinical trial involving 88 participants.
  • Measured lateral and vertical gingival displacement using 3D analysis.
  • Assessed periodontal indices immediately and 7-14 days post-procedure.

Main Results:

  • Racestyptine with cord (253 µm) and Racegel with cord (247 µm) achieved significant lateral displacement (>200 µm).
  • Racegel cordless provided 207 µm of lateral displacement, not statistically significant.
  • No significant differences in vertical displacement were observed among techniques.

Conclusions:

  • Racestyptine and Racegel (with or without cord) effectively open the gingival sulcus for prosthodontic impressions.
  • All tested methods demonstrated an astringent effect and no immediate or short-term periodontal damage.
