Summary

Intracapsular tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (iTA) offers reduced pain and complications for children with Trisomy 21 (T21) obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) compared to traditional tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (TT). Both procedures effectively improve OSA, with no significant difference in long-term outcomes.

Background:

  • Intracapsular tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (iTA) is increasingly preferred for pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) due to a favorable recovery profile.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the surgical recovery and impact on OSA between iTA and extracapsular tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (TT) in patients with T21.
  • To evaluate postoperative pain, complications, and long-term OSA outcomes in T21 patients undergoing these procedures.
