Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the patterns, distribution, and causes of eye injuries in security forces during CIOps.
  • To inform preventative strategies and enhance eye protection measures.

  • Multicentric, retrospective chart review of ocular trauma cases.
  • Data collected from January 2016 to December 2019 across three hospitals in a CIOps-affected region.

  • 131 cases of ocular injury identified, predominantly in males (mean age 32.46 years).
  • Explosive blasts (45.80%) were the leading cause, followed by training (29.84%) and gunshot wounds (11.42%).

Conclusions:

  • Combat-related ocular injuries, especially from explosions, are a significant concern in CIOps.
  • Highest incidence observed in Zone 1, highlighting geographical risk factors.
  • Mandatory use of military combat eye protection is recommended to mitigate ocular trauma risk.
