Modeling in Therapy01:26

Modeling in Therapy

89
Modeling, a key technique in therapy, uses observational learning to help clients acquire and practice new skills by watching therapists demonstrate desired behaviors. This approach, rooted in Albert Bandura's concept of vicarious learning, plays a significant role in therapeutic interventions for various psychological conditions, including social anxiety, ADHD, and depression.

Relationship Formation

What do you think is the single most influential factor in determining with whom you become friends and whom you form romantic relationships? You might be surprised to learn that the answer is simple: the people with whom you have the most contact. This most important factor is proximity. You are more likely to be friends with people you have regular contact with. For example, there are decades of research that shows that you are more likely to become friends with people who live in your dorm,...

Cancer Survival Analysis01:21

Cancer Survival Analysis

356
Cancer survival analysis focuses on quantifying and interpreting the time from a key starting point, such as diagnosis or the initiation of treatment, to a specific endpoint, such as remission or death. This analysis provides critical insights into treatment effectiveness and factors that influence patient outcomes, helping to shape clinical decisions and guide prognostic evaluations. A cornerstone of oncology research, survival analysis tackles the challenges of skewed, non-normally...

Self-Discrepancy Theory

18.3K
One influential perspective on what motivates people's behavior is detailed in Tory Higgin's self-discrepancy theory (Higgins, 1987). He proposed that people hold disagreeing internal representations of themselves that lead to different emotional states.

Nursing Ethical Principles II01:27

Nursing Ethical Principles II

985
Ethical principles are essential in guiding nurses to fulfill their responsibilities, focusing on the quality of nursing care and decision-making. These principles, including autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and fidelity, shape the ethical framework within healthcare settings.
Consider the following scenario, which illustrates how these principles are applied in the care of Mr. John, a fifty-year-old teacher diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer.
Initially, Mr. John's...

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Health Psychology
  • Social Psychology

Background:

  • Limited theoretical models exist for cancer patient self-disclosure.
  • Previous research explored health-related self-disclosure and cancer patient disclosure individually.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To explore relationships between self-disclosure, cancer perception, disclosure intention, disclosure level/range, social support, and well-being in adult cancer patients.

Main Methods:

  • Online survey with self-report questionnaires.
  • Structural equation modeling analysis.
  • 359 adult cancer patients participated.

Main Results:

  • Positive disclosure intention predicted disclosure level and range.
  • Negative cancer perception decreased disclosure level.
  • Disclosure level improved social support and well-being; disclosure range did not.

Conclusions:

  • Self-disclosure is linked to social support and well-being.
  • Enhancing disclosure depth, not range, improves patient outcomes.
  • Findings support developing nursing interventions to improve cancer patient self-disclosure.
