Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the level of reflective ability among nurses.
  • To assess the relationship between nurses' reflective ability, self-efficacy, and work engagement.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study was conducted with 240 nurses from seven educational hospitals in Tabriz, Iran, using stratified random sampling.
  • Data were collected using validated questionnaires: Groningen Reflection Ability Scale (GRAS), Sherer's General Self-Efficacy Scale (SGSES), and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES).
  • Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 13.

Main Results:

  • Nurses achieved a mean reflection score of 86.51 (SD=8.17), a mean self-efficacy score of 60.89 (SD=11.11), and a mean work engagement score of 3.39 (SD=1.36).
  • A significant positive correlation was found between nurses' total reflection scores and their scores for both work engagement and self-efficacy.
  • Significant variations in reflection scores were observed among nurses working in different hospital units.

Conclusions:

  • Nurses' reflective practice is significantly associated with their self-efficacy and work engagement.
  • Nurse managers and educators should prioritize initiatives to enhance nurses' reflective skills and foster a supportive environment for reflective practice in clinical settings.
