Iranian nurses face significant work-life imbalance, with work often interfering with personal life. Higher education and age may positively influence work-life balance, while early retirement intentions signal challenges.
Area of Science:
- Nursing
- Healthcare Management
- Occupational Health
Background:
- Work-life balance (WLB) is crucial for nursing staff well-being and retention.
- Understanding factors influencing WLB in clinical settings is essential for healthcare organizations.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate work-life balance (WLB) and its contributing factors among Iranian nurses.
- To identify specific challenges and facilitators impacting nurses' WLB in clinical environments.
Main Methods:
- A multicenter cross-sectional study involving 205 nurses in Tabriz, Iran.
- Data collected via structured questionnaires, including Fisher's Work-Life Balance Scale.
- Stratified random sampling used to ensure representative participant selection.
Main Results:
- Nurses reported higher Work Interference with Personal Life (WIPL) than Personal Life Interference with Work (PLIW).
- Master's degree holders exhibited lower WIPL scores.
- Nurses considering early retirement were younger, with higher WIPL and lower Work Personal Life Enhancement (WPLE) scores; age correlated positively with WPLE.
Conclusions:
- Significant work-life imbalances exist among Iranian nurses, with work impacting personal life more.
- Education level, early retirement intentions, and age are key factors influencing WLB.
- Further longitudinal research is recommended to explore causal relationships.
