[De Garengeot hernia - a case report].

Background:

• A 79-year-old woman with a history of polycythemia vera, glaucoma, and hypertension presented with lower abdominal pain and a right groin tumor.
• Past surgical history included cholecystectomy with incidental gallbladder carcinoma, partial liver resection, and hysterectomy.

Observation:

• Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a hernia sac containing the appendix vermiformis.
• The patient experienced lower abdominal pain and a palpable tumor in the right groin.

Findings:

• Surgical intervention via a preperitoneal open approach successfully removed an inflamed appendix from the femoral hernia sac.
• Herniorrhaphy with mesh repair was performed, and the patient was discharged the following day.

Implications:

• This case highlights the rare Garengeot hernia, defined as a femoral hernia containing the appendix.
• Early diagnosis and surgical management are crucial for favorable outcomes in such rare presentations.
