This study developed and validated an "Instructional Disk for the Management of Post-Partum Haemorrhage" to aid students in simulated care scenarios. Both experts and students found the tool highly effective for learning Post-Partum Haemorrhage management.
Area of Science:
- Medical Education
- Obstetrics and Midwifery
- Simulation-Based Learning
Background:
- Students struggle with the correct sequence of actions during Post-Partum Haemorrhage simulations.
- Anxiety and fear of errors in simulated environments increase stress during training.
- A structured guideline tool can enhance student confidence and assertiveness in managing Post-Partum Haemorrhage.
Purpose of the Study:
- To create and validate a self-applied instructional tool for teaching Post-Partum Haemorrhage (PPH) care in simulated settings.
- To develop a didactic support tool to improve the learning process for PPH management.
- To enhance student performance and confidence in managing PPH through a structured aid.
Main Methods:
- Methodological study employing a five-phase development process: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation.
- Validation by nine Obstetrics and Midwifery experts using a nine-item questionnaire and calculation of the Content Validity Index (CVI).
- Evaluation by 32 undergraduate Midwifery students assessing applicability, functionality, clarity, coherence, and usability in simulated PPH stations.
Main Results:
- Experts achieved a Content Validity Index of 1, with 95.6% mean absolute agreement on the tool's content.
- Students reported high satisfaction, with 97.7% mean absolute agreement on the tool's usability and effectiveness.
- Agreement levels above 90% among both experts and students indicate high validation and perceived utility of the instructional disk.
Conclusions:
- The Instructional Disk for the Management of Post-Partum Haemorrhage is a validated tool by experienced Obstetrics and Midwifery professionals.
- The tool effectively covers Brazilian guidelines for Post-Partum Haemorrhage management.
- Students positively perceived the support tool, highlighting its value in learning PPH care within simulated environments.
