Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate intrinsic functional connectivity of the default mode network (DMN) in primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) patients.
  • To explore the association between DMN alterations and cognitive dysfunction in PACG.

Main Methods:

  • Functional MRI (fMRI) was used to examine DMN connectivity.
  • 34 PACG patients and 34 matched healthy controls (HC) were included.
  • Posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) served as the region of interest.

Main Results:

  • PACG patients showed significantly attenuated functional connectivity between the PCC and the left anterior cingulum cortex and left paracentral lobule compared to HC.
  • Weakened functional connectivity within the DMN was observed in the PACG group.

Conclusions:

  • These findings suggest a neurological mechanism underlying both visual and cognitive deficits in PACG.
