Summary

This study shows a successful minimally invasive surgery for pectus excavatum and mitral valve repair. The combined approach offered a positive short-term outcome for a patient with severe heart valve regurgitation.

Background:

  • Pectus excavatum, a chest wall deformity, can coexist with cardiovascular issues like mitral valve regurgitation.
  • Severe mitral valve regurgitation necessitates timely intervention to prevent heart failure.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with both severe pectus excavatum and significant mitral valve regurgitation.
  • A staged surgical approach was planned to address both conditions sequentially.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent staged minimally invasive pectus excavatum correction.
  • Subsequently, endoscopic mitral valve repair was successfully performed.
  • Short-term outcomes demonstrated successful correction of both conditions.

Implications:

  • This combined minimally invasive strategy may be a viable option for patients with concurrent pectus excavatum and severe mitral valve disease.
  • Further research is warranted to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of this approach.
