Serum calcitonin after renal transplantation
Abstract:
A prospective study of serum calcitonin was made in 9 patients with chronic renal failure. The patients received a well-functioning renal transplant. At the time of transplantation serum calcitonin was significantly elevated as compared with the serum concentration in normal controls. During the first 3--5 weeks after renal transplantation serum calcitonin decreased. Afterwards it increased to a level of the same magnitude as the initial value. A significant relationship was found between serum calcitonin and serum phosphorus, whereas no significant correlation was present between serum calcitonin and serum creatinine or between serum calcitonin and serum calcium.
