Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

3.3K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy01:25

Interpersonal Psychotherapy

26
Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is a structured, time-limited therapeutic approach initially developed to treat depression. It integrates key concepts from psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, making it a uniquely eclectic framework. The therapy is rooted in the interpersonal theories of Adolph Meyer and Harry Stack Sullivan, as well as John Bowlby's attachment theory, and focuses on the interplay between interpersonal relationships and emotional well-being.

Area of Science:

  • Psychiatry
  • Mental Health Services Research

Background:

  • First Episode Psychosis (FEP) affects approximately 1300 adults annually in Ireland.
  • Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) is recognized as a leading practice for conditions like schizophrenia.
  • A dedicated EIP program was initiated in Dublin South Central Mental Health Service in 2012.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of an established Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) program.
  • To compare outcomes for First Episode Psychosis (FEP) patients before and after EIP implementation.
  • To assess changes in therapeutic interventions and physical healthcare monitoring.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study design was employed.
  • Service users with FEP from 2016-2022 were analyzed post-EIP program introduction.
  • Data was compared to a retrospective study of treatment as usual from 2002-2012.

Main Results:

  • Post-EIP introduction, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for psychosis (CBTp) increased from 12% to 52% (p < 0.001).
  • Engagement with behavioural family therapy rose from 3% to 15% (p < 0.01).
  • Significant improvements were observed in physical healthcare monitoring rates (p < 0.001).

Conclusions:

  • Dedicated multidisciplinary teams in EIP programs enhance guideline adherence.
  • EIP programs improve delivery of key interventions like CBTp and family therapy.
  • Specialized EIP services lead to better physical health monitoring for FEP patients.
