[Improved technic of a stapling device and the prognosis of rectal carcinoma]

From Sep. 1977 to Mar. 1982, 150 patients with rectal carcinoma were operated with the mechanical staple suture technique and serious complications, e.g. anastomotic leakage were avoided. All the cases have been followed more than one year. The 1, 2, 3 and 4 year survival rates were 94%, 84%, 76% and 63%, respectively. Removal of the primary tumor in the presence of hepatic metastasis has some beneficial effect after operation. A better result is achieved as compared with those reported by other authors at home and abroad.
