Gender-affirming care for the adolescent patient
1Vanessa Pomarico-Denino is a family NP and lead clinician for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at the Connecticut Medical Group in Conn.
Abstract:
Over the past decade, the number of children and adolescents who identify as transgender and/or gender diverse has increased. It is essential for clinicians to have the knowledge and resources to effectively care for these patients, identify associated risks (such as sexually transmitted infections, unplanned pregnancy, depression, anxiety, and increased suicide risk) as well as to understand hormone therapy to help patients achieve desired expression of the gender with which they identify.
