Modeling in Therapy01:26

Modeling in Therapy

74
Modeling, a key technique in therapy, uses observational learning to help clients acquire and practice new skills by watching therapists demonstrate desired behaviors. This approach, rooted in Albert Bandura's concept of vicarious learning, plays a significant role in therapeutic interventions for various psychological conditions, including social anxiety, ADHD, and depression.

Humanistic Therapy01:24

Humanistic Therapy

44
Humanistic therapies emphasize personal growth, self-understanding, and the fulfillment of human potential. Rooted in the belief that individuals inherently strive toward self-actualization, these approaches encourage clients to explore their feelings and experiences in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Humanistic therapies differ from psychodynamic approaches by focusing on conscious experiences, present circumstances, and the potential for self-improvement rather than past conflicts...

Interpersonal Psychotherapy01:25

Interpersonal Psychotherapy

26
Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is a structured, time-limited therapeutic approach initially developed to treat depression. It integrates key concepts from psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, making it a uniquely eclectic framework. The therapy is rooted in the interpersonal theories of Adolph Meyer and Harry Stack Sullivan, as well as John Bowlby's attachment theory, and focuses on the interplay between interpersonal relationships and emotional well-being.

Area of Science:

  • Occupational health
  • Health psychology
  • Health services research

Background:

  • Belgian health insurance policies may pressure work-disabled individuals to return to work (RTW), potentially leading to relapse.
  • Autonomous motivation for RTW, driven by personal interest, is more sustainable than externally coerced return.
  • Motivational counselling, integrating self-determination theory and motivational interviewing, can foster this autonomous motivation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report the development of a training program for health insurance practitioners on motivational counselling.
  • To utilize intervention mapping as an evidence-based framework for designing the training.

Main Methods:

  • Intervention mapping's six-step process guided the development of program goals and learning outcomes.
  • Identified change methods were translated into practical training components, incorporating health insurance input.
  • Developed a concrete training program with integrated implementation and evaluation plans.

Main Results:

  • The training targets increased practitioners' knowledge, skills, and beliefs in motivational counselling and solution-focused strategies.
  • Practical components include guided practice, feedback, and information delivered via a five-session online format with follow-up.
  • The training was designed to equip practitioners to foster autonomous motivation for RTW.

Conclusions:

  • The development process provides insights for understanding training effectiveness and implementation.
  • Future training can be adapted for different stakeholders and contexts, considering organizational barriers.
  • Further research is recommended to evaluate motivational counselling's impact on claimants' RTW trajectories.
