Internet of Things (IoT) data drives innovation in smart cities and healthcare.
Collection of personal IoT data introduces significant privacy protection challenges.
Existing research lacks comprehensive analysis of IoT privacy issues and solutions.

Purpose of the Study:

To systematically review and synthesize the state-of-the-art on privacy issues in IoT.
To evaluate the role of Personal Data Store (PDS) technologies in addressing IoT privacy concerns.
To identify research gaps and trends in IoT privacy research.

Main Methods:

Systematic mapping review of 49 selected studies published up to 2023.
Analysis of literature focusing on privacy issues and PDS-based solutions in IoT.
Categorization and interpretation of findings based on defined research questions.

Main Results:

Only approximately 20% of reviewed works proposed solutions for IoT privacy issues.
A significant surge in research interest observed, with 82% of studies published between 2018-2023.
Limited exploration of Personal Data Store (PDS) solutions, with only two studies utilizing them.

Conclusions:

IoT privacy remains a critical research area with a growing body of literature.
There is a substantial need for more research and development of effective privacy-preserving solutions, particularly those leveraging PDS.
