Summary

This study identifies key psychological factors contributing to repetitive negative thinking, or rumination. Diminished effortful control, positive beliefs, and cognitive self-consciousness directly predict rumination pathways.

Conclusions:

  • This study comprehensively assesses metacognitive and self-regulatory frameworks of rumination using a data-driven approach.
  • Findings suggest multiple pathways to rumination, informing clinical conceptualization of rumination and related disorders.
