This study validated the Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action (AIDA) Model-Based Antismoking Campaign Questionnaire for Malaysia. The translated questionnaire demonstrated satisfactory content validity and reliability for use in the Malaysian population.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Health Psychology
- Survey Methodology
Background:
- Antismoking campaigns are crucial for public health.
- The Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action (AIDA) model provides a framework for persuasive communication.
- Validating measurement tools is essential for accurate assessment of campaign effectiveness.
Purpose of the Study:
- To translate and validate the AIDA Model-Based Antismoking Campaign Questionnaire for the Malaysian population.
- To assess the content validity and reliability of the adapted questionnaire.
- To provide a culturally relevant tool for evaluating antismoking interventions in Malaysia.
Main Methods:
- The study employed forward and backward translation for the questionnaire.
- Content validity was assessed by eight experts using a Likert scale, calculating the Content Validity Index (CVI).
- Pilot testing with 25 non-smokers and 6 smokers determined reliability using Cronbach's alpha.
Main Results:
- The Content Validity Index (CVI) scores for relevancy, clarity, comprehensiveness, and representativeness were 0.85, 0.79, 0.79, and 0.84, respectively.
- Scores above 0.83 indicated that all items were relevant and representative.
- Pilot testing revealed high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha > 0.85) for both non-smoker and smoker groups.
Conclusions:
- The translated and adapted AIDA Model-Based Antismoking Campaign Questionnaire shows satisfactory content validity.
- The questionnaire is reliable and suitable for further pilot testing in the target Malaysian population.
- This validated tool can aid in assessing the effectiveness of antismoking campaigns in Malaysia.
