  • A type-3 Kuhn cell significantly increased in size after intense flying periods.

Findings:

  • Demonstrated dynamic radiologic changes in frontal sinus volume and wall integrity.
  • Identified a type-3 Kuhn cell as a factor in barotrauma-induced frontal sinusitis.
  • Endoscopic frontal sinusotomy led to complete resolution of symptoms.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of serial imaging in diagnosing iterative barotrauma.
  • Suggests functional endoscopic sinus surgery for ostial obstruction in barotraumatic sinusitis.
  • Emphasizes the link between flight-related barotrauma and frontal sinus pathology.
