Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a type of cancer that occurs when there is an abnormal growth of skin cells, usually triggered by damage to the DNA within the skin cells. It is primarily caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or artificial sources like tanning beds. Summary

Acquired dermal melanocytosis (ADM) is rare, especially when it affects only extrafacial sites. This case report details an exceptionally rare instance of extensive, bilateral, purely extrafacial ADM in an adult female.

Background:

Dermal melanocytoses involve ectopic melanocytes in the dermis, with Mongolian spots being a common example.
Acquired dermal melanocytosis (ADM) presents later than typical congenital forms, often on the face.

Observation:

Purely extrafacial ADM is exceptionally rare and typically unifocal.
This report describes a unique case of extensive, bilateral, purely extrafacial ADM.

Findings:

The patient was a 44-year-old female of Filipino descent.
The presentation involved widespread extrafacial skin areas, differing from typical ADM patterns.

Implications:

This case expands the known clinical spectrum of acquired dermal melanocytosis.
Highlights the importance of considering rare presentations in dermatological diagnosis.
