Follicular lymphoma (FL) treatment using bendamustine and rituximab chemoimmunotherapy achieved complete remission in a stage II bulky symptomatic patient. Continued monitoring is essential to ensure sustained remission of this non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Area of Science:
- Hematology-Oncology
- Clinical Research
- Lymphoma Studies
Background:
- Follicular lymphoma (FL) is a common non-Hodgkin lymphoma, often presenting asymptomatically.
- Advancing therapeutic strategies are improving survival rates for FL patients.
- This case focuses on a symptomatic, stage II bulky low-grade FL presentation.
Observation:
- A 51-year-old male with diabetes presented with symptomatic right inguinal lymphadenopathy.
- Excisional biopsy confirmed stage II bulky symptomatic low-grade FL.
- The patient had no B symptoms like fever, night sweats, or weight loss.
Findings:
- Chemoimmunotherapy with rituximab and bendamustine was administered for six cycles.
- The patient tolerated the treatment well and completed all cycles.
- Follow-up FDG PET/CT scan demonstrated complete remission of the disease.
Implications:
- Bendamustine-Rituximab chemoimmunotherapy is an effective treatment for stage II bulky symptomatic FL.
- Achieving complete remission highlights the efficacy of current therapeutic strategies.
- Long-term surveillance is crucial for confirming sustained remission in FL patients.
