Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Lymphedema Management

Background:

  • Scrotal elephantiasis is a rare but debilitating condition characterized by extreme scrotal swelling.
  • It is often caused by chronic obstructive lymphedema, significantly impairing patient function and well-being.

Observation:

  • A case study of a 60-year-old male patient with several years of severe, persistent scrotal enlargement is presented.
  • The condition led to significant functional limitations and adverse psychosocial effects.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with scrotal elephantiasis following a clinical evaluation.
  • Surgical scrotal volume reduction was performed as a comprehensive treatment strategy.

Implications:

  • Scrotal volume reduction surgery offers a significant improvement in the quality of life for patients suffering from scrotal elephantiasis.
  • This case highlights the importance of surgical intervention in managing this rare condition.
