Background:

Pigmented contact cheilitis (PCC) presents as unexpected lip hyperpigmentation, causing patient distress.
A systematic review was conducted to consolidate available data on PCC.

Approach:

Comprehensive electronic searches were performed across major databases: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and LILACS.
The Joanna Briggs Institute tool was utilized for rigorous risk of bias assessment.

The review analyzed 7 reported cases of PCC, predominantly affecting females (85.7%) with a mean age of 32 years.
Ricinoleic acid and gum ester were identified as frequent causative allergens.
